Melatonin sleep aid review

My doctor recommended melatonin to me when I told her I had trouble sleeping. But before I tell you how much I love this product, I must tell you the backstory behind my sleep issues because I take a medication that makes natural sleep incredibly difficult to obtain.
1. I sleep with a c-pap machine. This helps my quality of sleep, but helps very little to do with me getting to sleep.
2. I used to take Ambien, but my doctor who prescribed it, stopped prescribing it because he didn't want to prescribe habit forming drugs anymore. I told him I didn't think that I could sleep without the Ambien. He said, "That's because you've developed a habit for needing it." Ok. so what now? I had been taking Ambien for THREE YEARS.
3. My doctor then prescribed me Baclofen. This is a muscle relaxer that was supposed to help me sleep. It did get me to sleep but I had many nights in a row of violent nightmares where I felt like someone was killing me and I would wake up sleeping. SO. I stopped taking the Baclofen.
4. I still need to sleep after getting off the Baclofen, so I used Benadryl. It worked, but I had to take 2 pills every night. A couple of months later I visited my GP and she wasn't too crazy about me using the Benadryl to sleep. mainly because if I really needed it for an allergic reaction, it might not work since I was taking it so much. Now what to do?
5. My GP recommends Melatonin. I've tried it before and I've not had good results. It had been a long time since I'd used it though. So she showed me the one that she liked on Amazon. I read the reviews and wasn't entirely sure that I wanted to use that particular one.

So I searched the reviews of multiple Melatonin products by various suppliers.
I decided on the Advanta Supplement Melatonin because of it's stellar reviews and it's description.

I am telling you, this Melatonin works incredibly well. It knocks me out. K N O C K S M E O U T !
I couldn't be more grateful for this All-Natural Sleep Aid and it's effectiveness.
When I received a diagnosis that required a medication that would keep me awake all night, I was forlorn.
I had to sleep! I have a family to take care of!
So, I've depended on drugs to help me sleep, for YEARS.

I'm so happy to have found this product.
I feel confident that I can use this product without experiencing any side-effects.

I WAKE UP feeling REFRESHED and NOT DROWSY!
I cannot say the same for the drugs I had to take. Even with my c-pap, I still had mornings that were drowsy because of the medicine.

Thank you so much, Advanta, for stellar customer service and for checking in on me to see how I like your product.
Advanta sent me an email before I ever received the Melatonin, informing me of the usage recommendations, and provided contact information should I have any questions. The email is written by the President of the company! Tell me how awesome that is! A company that cares. I don't feel like a number. That means a lot to me.

So, again, thank you Advanta, for a fantastic product that DELIVERS it's promise of effectiveness and for taking care of your customers.

Sweet Dreams to you!
Love, A former Ambien user.

(I understand results may vary, but if you're unsure about using Melatonin, I recommend at least giving Advanta's Melatonin a try for one week. I hope this works for you as well as it has worked for me.)

Works But The Dosage May Differ

I like to sleep but it seems like I can't get a full night's sleep. I usually end up taking OTC sleeping pills which makes me feel drowsy but it's like I can only get 2 hours of sleep at a time with these pills. Rarely do I sleep straight through the night. I hate the fact that I have to take a sleeping aid and like it less that most OTC sleeping pills are made of chemicals. Not good for the body. They also have strange side effects like making me feel super hungry when I wake up in the middle of the night. Or getting a headache while the medicine kicks in. Lastly, they make me feel loopy. Like a puppet.

When my dad was alive, he also had trouble sleeping and he is the one that got me started on Melatonin. I love Melatonin because it is basically natural (more melatonin than other ingredients). I don't feel groggy or stupid after taking them; however, depending on the brand, Melatonin has one side effect that I really don't like. It makes me have strange dreams that are more nightmare than happily ever after.

This product is one of the Melatonin brands that I have used that does not give me weird dreams. I like the fact that it is a tablet that dissolves easily instead of a ginormous (I think this word should be in the dictionary-LOL) pill that might choke me or make me gag. I know they make Melatonin pills that are tiny but usually they are a low dosage so I have to take the 10mg "horse pills".

Why the four stars? Simply because I have to use more than the recommended dosage, thereby having to buy a bottle a month. Also although some people say it works within fifteen minutes, it takes a little longer for me. Still, I think this is a better alternative than using OTC sleeping pills. I also like the fact that you don't have to drink water in order to take. Just place it in your mouth and let it dissolve. Does not taste bad either.

I would also like to add that customer service is excellent on this product. I received an email a few days after getting the pills letting me know how to use it. Believe it or not, initially I took this pill with water. I think that it was very nice of the seller to send me an email with instructions on how to use it correctly and after I wrote back to him thanking him, he sent me another bottle for free. So if there was a category for customer service, I would give it 10 stars.

I recently took a job working 3rd shift. I've never worked vampire hours before. Adjusting to that schedule is no easy task. I got black out curtains to make our room as dark as possible during the day while I sleep. Sleeping isn't all that easy sometimes. Especially the first few weeks as you adjust. Even now three months in I find that after 10am or so I have a harder time getting to sleep. I guess it's from decades of being active that time of day. I did some research and decided a natural method for helping me sleep was what I wanted before resorting to over the counter medicine or something prescribed. I opted to try Melatonin and this brand was highly recommended. So far it works great. I started with a half a pill to try it out. I take it about a half hour or a bit longer before I want to be asleep to allow it to work. Once asleep I sleep pretty soundly and don't have any issues when I rise. I know what works for me may not work for you. If this is the route you want to explore I think you're good to go. 1.5mg (half pill) works pretty well for me. I have done a full dose but it just seemed a bit much and I was still sleepy even after 8 hours of sound sleep. The vendor ships fast. The packaging was excellent. Lots of cotton inside the jar. No broken pills.

Works by shutting my brain down so I can get to sleep. Only problem I have had is it does not last through the night. I usually wake up about 4 hours after I have taken one. And taking another one at that time does not help. I can still give it 4 stars because it does help me get to sleep. Without this my brain is running full speed - playing songs and reshowing scenes from movies.

I have been using this product for several months now and it continues to help me get to sleep. Unless something changes I'm sure I will be ordering more.

and it has worked better than anything else I've tried

I have been using this for a week, and it has worked better than anything else I've tried. I may need to increase the dosage, because while it does put me to sleep, I wake up a lot. Before I took this, I would wake up in the middle of the night, and stay awake for hours. Now. I do wake up often, but I can fall right back asleep, nearly instantly. I think I am waking up after each dream cycle. That is fine, because I am definitely getting more sleep than I was. but I had hoped I could sleep through the night with this. I may need to increase the dosage.
Also, I put the tablet under my tongue, as instructed; but it takes a LONG time to dissolve. Not the 3-5 minutes, like it says, more like 20 minutes. Maybe I am not doing it right? I want to increase the dosage, but how would I do that? Put 2 tablets under my tongue at the same time?
I do plan to continue using it, as it has worked better than anything else, even other natural supplements. I do like the idea of putting it under my tongue, despite the fact that it takes a while to dissolve for me. It gets absorbed faster that way.
It should be noted of course, that nothing will work the same way for everyone. And I worked the graveyard shift for nearly a decade, only getting a daytime job 9 months ago. So. my body may still be trying to establish an internal clock.
